I didn’t walk yesterday. Well I did, just not my usual “mall-walk.” Instead, I went to the city to celebrate my sons’ birthday.
I gave myself permission to be free of the “shackles” of routine — and guess what? The world did not end. I’m convinced that the “failures” that I’ve had, in my diabetes management, are a direct result of trying to be too strict. Relax, Kathy. We’re only human.
NYC = walk your feet off; that’s the best part! My daughter calls NYC her “personal gym.” 🙂 Hey, it works! Walking the streets of the Big Apple is a fabulous way to get your steps in and drop those pounds. It’s a beautiful city, the energy is palpable, and the streets go on forever.
Here’s the thing — Walking is walking, so you don’t HAVE to follow your routine, if it’s inconvenient, for some reason, walk wherever you are — IT ALL COUNTS! We just have to keep moving, right?
Isn’t that what’s important? We’re exercising (via walking) enjoying it, and adding to a healthy lifestyle. Doesn’t get better than that, right?
Walking in the city, that slight change in routine, actually gave me a boost in terms of my commitment to keeping my feet moving.
